Birds
Every morning, the ocean roar fills in the space between the songs of the birds. Click below to hear my morning alarm clock.
I’m on Oahu during the rainy season, but the sunny days outnumber the rainy ones. We lost power again last night during a rainstorm, which conveniently coincided with my bedtime.
Surfing
The North Shore is known as one of the top winter surfing destinations in the world so I rode my bike to Ehukai Beach Park and watched part of the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout where the best pipe surfers compete. My iPhone was no match for the professional camera crews with their telephoto lenses, but you can see a few surfers if you look closely.

Pineapples
The next day, I drove to the Dole Plantation. In the late 1800s, a young Boston man by the name of Jim Dole with a horticulture degree from Harvard bought 61 acres of land in central Oahu and experimented until he found the best produce to grow in the land’s red dirt. Pineapple won!
While at the farm, I learned how to cut and serve pineapple properly. Click on the video, and I’ll teach you too. Thanks to my videographer, Sloan!
Dole’s three-acre pineapple garden is the world’s largest plant maze. It includes over two miles of paths with 14,000 plants.
